Job Title
Police Officer - $5,000 Sign‑on Bonus at University of Miami Miller School of Medicine
Pay RangeBase pay: $74,024.00 per year – $80,014.00 per year. Starting salary approximately $62,000 to $91,416, depending on experience.
Sign‑on bonus: $5,000.

A police officer’s primary responsibility is to provide protection of life and property to all citizens on a 24‑hour basis.
- Serve as a uniformed patrol officer, detective, community police officer, directed patrol officer, canine officer, or problem‑solving team officer (as assigned).
- Provide protective and law‑enforcement services on the campus.
- Provide special services consistent with the mission of the university and police department.
- Work during periods when normal operations are suspended.
- Perform duties consistent with University culture change, common purpose, DIRECCT values, and service standards.
- Respond to emergency calls and all calls for service.
- Preserve public peace.
- Enforce state laws and county ordinances.
- Facilitate safe and efficient traffic flow.
- Complete incident reports and other paperwork.
- Conduct preliminary investigations, both criminal and traffic.
- File criminal charges, testify in court, participate in pre‑filed conferences and depositions.
- Arrest violators of criminal and traffic laws; issue summons; give testimony.
- Send referrals to Student Affairs as appropriate.
- Administer first aid, transport to health center/hospital, request rescue services as needed.
- Ensure security of university property; effectively patrol assigned areas unpredictably.
- Patrol in marked vehicles, motorcycle, on foot, or bicycle as assigned.
- Initiate proactive patrols and record in CAD system.
- Observe and report unsafe conditions; initiate corrective measures.
- Act as dispatcher when needed; direct patrol officers; document CAD information; maintain equipment logs; manage keys.
- Assist visitors and university employees with directions.
- Coordinate motorist assistance; unlock vehicles; provide jump‑starting or flat‑tire assistance.
- Perform administrative tasks such as delivering emergency messages, collecting lost and found, cleaning inspections; deliver reports to Coral Gables Police Department.
- Escort students, faculty, and staff as requested.
- Work special duty during university functions, athletic events, and student social activities (traffic control, crowd control).
- Modern police methods and practices.
- Geography of Coral Gables city, university campus, and related venues.
- County and city ordinances, rules, policies, procedures;
University policies and student handbook. - Clery Act;
Title 9. - Law‑enforcement responsibilities; use of authority.
- Computer aptitude for paperwork and CAD input.
- Arrest techniques, defensive tactics, vehicle operations (normal and emergency).
- Driving in normal and emergency conditions.
- Proper use of departmental weapons and equipment.
