Sr. Maintenance Mechanic

The University of Miami/UHealth department of Facilities is seeking a Full Time Sr. Maintenance Mechanic to work at the UHealth Medical Campus. The Senior Maintenance Mechanic provides general facility maintenance services and operations, including plumbing, carpentry, painting/plastering, electrical maintenance, HVAC maintenance, housekeeping, landscape and grounds maintenance. The Senior Maintenance Mechanic resolves more complex questions and problems.

• Ensure that all systems are fully operational and inspect them in accordance with accepted standards.
• Direct and support technical support staff.
• Maintain current knowledge of all federal, state, and local safety and environmental laws and regulations, ensuring compliance.
• Develop and implement preventive maintenance and repair programs and procedures.
• Act as a source of direction for the training and guidance of less experienced staff.
• Respond to service requests, including hot calls, cold calls, and odor complaints.
• Inspect water and life safety systems and respond to all fire systems and emergency calls.
• Adhere to University and unit‑level policies and procedures and safeguard University assets.

• Repair or replace ballasts, switches, motors, controls, lighting fixtures, etc.
• Operate heating, cooling systems, pumps and other related equipment.
• Adjust, repair or replace switches, thermostats, humidistats, and other minor repairs to equipment.
• Check/operate fire pumps, generators.
• Perform preventive maintenance on all equipment assigned in accordance with established procedures and frequencies.
• Perform minor plumbing repairs, fix leaks, repair or replace plumbing fixtures, minor soldering and brazing or any other work as assigned by supervisor.
• Maintain work progress with an assigned helper when the other team member is absent.
• Apply chemicals to air handler units coils; prepare area to prevent water leakage to the exterior of the unit.
• Operate the pressure cleaning machine following procedures as assigned.
• Lubricate non‑sealed bearings, replace or clean filters.
• Keep daily logs on major components up‑to‑date.
• Cycle and test emergency generators.
• Clean and paint equipment.
• Unstop drains, inspect boilers, water, gas and sewer lines.
• Contact appropriate foreman when the nature of work is beyond the mechanic’s capability, then assist with completion of the work as required.
• Follow all safety instructions provided and use all personal protective equipment assigned.

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum 4 years of relevant experience.

• Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
