Mobile Diesel Technician Level II
Fleet Services By Cox Automotive, a leading provider of on‑site mobile maintenance and repair services, is hiring a Mobile Diesel Technician Level II. The role is based in Indianapolis and involves performing licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance, light repairs, diagnostics, and more under the supervision of a Senior Mobile Diesel Technician or higher.

DUTIES- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (“PM”), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
- Perform minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment such as Electrical/Brake/Cooling Systems, Starters/Alternators, Fan clutches, Engine electronics, Diesel steering systems, Engines (gas and diesel), Transmissions (manual and automatic), Clutches, Differentials, etc.
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair truck equipment including Electrical/Brake/Cooling Systems, Air conditioning systems, and other listed components.
- Inspect, test, and diagnose defective equipment using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
- Road‑test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper operation.
- Identify problems, assess accuracy and relevance of information, and generate evaluated alternatives using sound judgment.
- Independently manage parts inventory and perform periodic reconciliation on company‑issued service truck.
- Maintain and operate the company‑issued service vehicle, conducting safety checks and pre‑/post‑trip inspections.
- Communicate effectively with clients and customers to assess needs, provide assistance, and resolve problems.
- Manage concurrent tasks and prioritize work activities and time allocations.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
- Document work according to company standards and upload pictures of performed work, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders (“RO”) using an iOS device and the proprietary TRAIT application.
- Accurately complete DOT forms and other documentation in a timely fashion.
- Work independently and manage own daily schedule.
- Maintain high productivity and work within or close to most Standard Repair Times.
- Obtain parts from approved vendors as necessary.
- Communicate with management and support via email or phone for repair estimates, purchase order numbers, or discussions of RO findings.
- Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, environmental policies, and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
- High School Diploma/GED and 3 years’ experience in a related field; or equivalent combination (e.g., higher degree or 5 years’ experience).
- Supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform required duties.
- Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within eighteen (18) months.
- Must successfully complete a DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical prior to employment.
- Valid DOT medical card with at least four (4) months remaining may substitute for a DOT physical; otherwise a DOT physical is required.
- Must be at least 21 years old.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain and maintain a Driver Qualification File.

- ASE T5 (Suspension) certification
- ASE T6 (Electrical and Electronic Systems) certification
- ASE T7 (HVAC) certification
- ASE 608/609 certification
- Understand the implications of new information for current and future problem‑solving and decision‑making.
- Ability to lift, bend, climb, stand, and walk for long periods; capable of moderately heavy labor and repetitive tasks.
- Communicate information succinctly and organize messages effectively.
- Determine tool and equipment needs accurately.
- Judge spatial relationships accurately (distance from observer, etc.).
- Apply logic and reasoning to evaluate alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches.
