About the OpportunityThe University of Miami Health System (UHealth) Department of Pediatrics‑Early Steps offers a full‑time position for a Child Development Specialist in Miami. The role involves assessing developmental needs, providing therapy, and supporting families and educators.
Core Responsibilities- Provides evaluations, reports, goals, direct therapy, and consultation services.
- Implements services and activities for children with a variety of developmental and diagnostic indicators.
- Delivers consultation services to parents, caregivers, teachers, and community specialists regarding client progress and recommendations.
- Assists children with physical, social, and behavioral needs.
- Maintains effective communications with parents.
- Preserves confidentiality while communicating with parents and other departments about individual children and family needs and progress.
- Ensures all licensing regulations are complied with at all times.
- Inputs patient data into appropriate computer systems in a timely manner.
- Adheres to University and unit‑level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
- Participates as a team member in evaluating children’s developmental functioning using formal and informal testing measures.
- Provides services in natural environments (home and community) and coordinates early intervention services.
- Works in a leadership role to assess, plan, coordinate, and evaluate early intervention services and strategies.
- Interprets developmental/medical assessment results for families under the supervision of a Ph.D. Psychologist.
- Develops individualized plans of care based on assessments and the Individualized Family Support Plan (IFSP).
- Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to determine the best services for children/parents.
- Educates parents about strengths, weaknesses, and developmental needs through the Family Support Planning Process.
- Evaluates developmental progress to determine the effectiveness of interventions.
- Bachelor’s degree in early childhood or related field required;
Master’s preferred. - Certification in a relevant specialty or field.
- Bilingual English/Creole preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of experience; at least one year with infants and/or toddlers with special needs.
- Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
