Island Lifeguard
The Island Lifeguard is responsible for monitoring and operating designated aquatic recreation spaces, including opening and closing while monitoring safety around the beach areas. The role involves setting up and verifying that supplies and equipment are available during operating hours, replenishing and maintaining as needed, interacting with guests, providing directions, and offering guest service assistance.
Essential Functions- Assume personal responsibility for safety and the environment, being accountable for themselves and the safety of others around them.
- Perform rescues of guests in danger of drowning and be alert to accidents; administer first aid, CPR, oxygen, and AED as needed.
- Monitor activities around aquatic recreational facilities to prevent or preempt injuries, providing assistance to guests as required and ensuring well‑being within the area.
- Report and follow up on any accidents, injuries, or incidents around the aquatic recreational facilities.
- Ensure the beach areas are clean, answer questions, enforce policies, rules and regulations in a polite yet confident manner.
- Keep guest interactions to a minimum while on watch to avoid distraction, while still providing a positive guest experience.
- Operating designated aquatic recreational spaces, including opening and closing, monitoring beach locations, and general activities around the beach.
- Work outdoors guarding aquatic recreational areas, exposing oneself to sun and external elements throughout the day.
- Maintain lifeguard qualifications, participating in regular training (lifeguard training, CPR/First Aid, AED, recurring in‑service training, re‑certification, and other management‑designated training).
- Set up and verify that supplies and equipment are available during operating hours and maintain as needed.
- Communicate with the Bridge and/or the Safety Officer by UHF radio in emergency situations.
- Attend emergency duties/drills as assigned in the ship’s Emergency Management Safety Plan.
- Conduct inventories of all island Shore Excursion items regularly.
- Follow proper procedures for cleaning and disinfecting snorkeling equipment.
- Participate in regular trainings/drills.
- Repair and maintain Shore Excursion island equipment, including mats, snorkeling gear, wave runner dock, and general maintenance of facilities and grounds.
- Lead and escort tours on GSC when required.
- Perform other related duties as assigned or directed; the omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning related duties.
- Be familiar with the Safety and Environmental Protection Policy and the SMS, and carry out appropriate policies and procedures for the position.
- Minimum of two (2) years’ experience as a lifeguard.
- Intermediate to advanced level English verbal and writing skills, including proper use of English grammar.
- Ability to work in a multi‑cultural environment and adapt to changes in schedules, assignments, and deadlines.
- High school diploma or foreign equivalent required.
- Position‑specific STCW training from an accredited educational institution required.
- Lifeguard training, CPR/First Aid, and AED required.
- Passionate about hospitality and customer service driven.
- Professional appearance and good hygiene.
- Respect for all co‑workers and guests.
- Pride in work by creating positive energy, excitement, and fun.
- Able to work seven days a week.
- Demonstrate positive behaviors; smiling, being polite and courteous.
- Develop camaraderie with team members.
- Ability to live in close quarters, sharing limited space with other cabin‑mates.
