The Michigan City School-Based Site Coordinator will play a critical role in launching and managing a school-based mentoring program for elementary students within the Michigan City Area Schools (MCAS). This individual will act as a connector, advocate, and champion for both students and mentors, helping to build a strong foundation for a long-term, impactful mentoring program.
The ideal candidate is deeply connected to the Michigan City community, passionate about youth development, and experienced in working within school systems. The Site Coordinator must be a reliable presence in students’ lives, someone who consistently shows up, listens deeply, and works collaboratively to remove barriers to success.
Requirements
Degree in human services, education, social work, or a related field and/or equivalent experience in youth development or mentoring programs.
Strong connections to the Michigan City area are preferred and highly valued, local knowledge and relationships will be essential for successful mentor recruitment and program growth.
Demonstrated experience working with youth, especially in educational or mentoring settings.
Proven ability to build trust and form meaningful relationships with students, families, educators, and community stakeholders.
Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage student records, schedules, and program data effectively.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Calm, compassionate, and dependable, able to respond supportively during student challenges or crises.
Adaptable and responsive to evolving student and program needs.
Deep commitment to youth development, educational equity, and supporting at-promise students.
Familiarity with trauma-informed care, restorative practices, and social-emotional learning is a plus.
