Capital Project Engineer / Plant Engineer / Plant Project Engineer

Michigan City, IN | Full-Time | On-Site

My client, a global manufacturer of custom-engineered industrial materials, is seeking a Capital Project Engineer to lead facility engineering efforts, capital projects, and long-range infrastructure planning at its flagship U.S. operation. This is a full-time, on-site role based in Michigan City, Indiana, ideal for an engineer who thrives at the intersection of technical execution, project leadership, and operational support.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Manage design, planning, budgeting, and execution of capital equipment and facility improvement projects
  • Support mechanical systems (piping, HVAC, chilled water, compressed air, etc.) and structural upgrades within the plant
  • Act as liaison for contractors, utilities, vendors, and internal stakeholders
  • Maintain plant layouts, utility drawings, and documentation for regulatory compliance
  • Champion safety, sustainability, and operational excellence initiatives
  • Serve as internal consultant on complex engineering challenges and site improvements
About You
  • Be able to do the job as described
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline required
  • Strong technical knowledge of industrial utilities and building systems
  • Proficient in project scoping, budgeting, scheduling, and contractor oversight
  • Hands-on engineering aptitude with a proactive, solution-oriented mindset
  • Experience in a union manufacturing environment is a plus
