Automotive Service Technician SummaryInspect vehicles, diagnose mechanical issues, perform repairs, and so much more!
In this role, you get to- Perform work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory standards.
- Diagnose the cause of any malfunction and perform repair.
- Communicate with the parts department to obtain needed parts.
- Saves and tags parts of the job if under warranty or if requested by the customer.
- Examine assigned vehicle to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended.
- Communicate with the service advisor immediately if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time.
- Document all work performed and recommended on the repair order.
- Road test vehicles when required.
- Participate in manufacturer-sponsored training programs, schools, and events.
- Keep abreast of manufacturer technical bulletins.
- Supervise work of any apprentice technicians as assigned.
- Report machinery defects or malfunctions to the supervisor.
- Ensure that customers’ cars are kept clean. Notify service advisors immediately of anything that has happened to change the appearance or condition of the vehicle.
- Keep the shop area neat and clean.
- Maintain and be accountable for all dealership-owned tools and manuals; return them to the proper place and in the same condition as they were received.
- Understand, keep abreast of, and comply with federal, state, and local regulations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know, etc.
- Operate all tools and equipment in a safe manner.
- Report any safety issues immediately to management.
- Other duties may be assigned, as needed.
- A valid driver's license
- Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before customers or employees of organization.
- Experience using general office equipment (i.e., computers, iPad, copier, etc.)
- Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time
- Possess the ability to multitask
- Professional, well‑groomed personal appearance
- Ability to apply common sense understanding, interpret and carry out a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or form.
- Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
- Associate’s degree (A.
A.) or equivalent from a two‑year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
