To further the mission of Girl Scout camp by overseeing and supporting counseling staff. Lead by example as a model youth developer and serve as a point person for behavior management, conflict resolution, and other camper concerns. Responsible for aiding and guiding the counseling staff and ensuring daily and weekly functions of camp run in accordance with Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE) standards.

• Be a role model to campers and staff in your attitude, behavior, and following camp procedures.
• Supervise and help train counseling staff to ensure that program needs and goals are achieved.
• Provide camp staff with the resources they need to ensure quality programming.
• Be alert to and assist with campers’ physical and psychological needs. Discuss with Health Director, Wellness Director, and Camp Director when appropriate.
• Handle any type of conflict that may arise between counselors or campers in a professional and cooperative manner.
• Weekly written check‑ins with all counseling staff to support their needs, promote continuous development of staff, and provide feedback and mentorship.
• Conduct verbal and written Camp Counselor and Unit Lead evaluations.
• Provide constructive feedback to staff to reinforce or modify behavior.
• Actively participate in camp activities, planning and leading those assigned.
• Apply youth development principles to empower campers, embrace diversity, aid in competency development, and build connections.
• Assist in the creation of schedules for campers and staff.
• Assist in the responsibilities associated with upholding State of Michigan Licensing and American Camp Association regulations and standards.
• Responsible for ensuring that daily and weekly camp functions run in accordance with the Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE) standards.
• Participate as a member of the camp leadership team to plan and supervise camp activities and the implementation of staff training including leading educational and training sessions for counselors.
• Support counseling staff with daily care and supervision of campers. This includes evening and overnight camper supervision through conducting bed‑checks and sleeping in units as assigned.
• Take the initiative to ensure that everyone has a great summer at camp.

• Age 21 or older preferred.
• Previous experience with children’s camps or working with children. Preferred experience as a Camp Counselor.
• Previous experience supervising and training staff.
• Previous experience with scheduling.
• Previous experience with behavior management, conflict resolution, and missing home.
• Demonstrated knowledge and skill in camp programming.
• Must become a member of Girl Scouts.
• Must have belief in and/or ability to speak with conviction about the mission and values of Girl Scouts, be willing to subscribe to the principles expressed in the Promise and Law and be aware of the needs of youth in our pluralistic society.
• Must be able to pass State and National background check.
• Current certification in Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED or willingness to obtain.

It is important for every staff member to understand the essential nature of the Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan program and Girl Scout Leadership Experience to ensure participation, with or without accommodation.
