Location:

Schedule:

Full-Time;

Project Duration:
About 2 years per project

Position Summary

We are hiring a Lead Construction Planner to build and own the construction plan for large, greenfield energy projects that run about two years. You decide how the work gets built: the sequence, the crews, the equipment, the materials and the permits each phase needs. Your schedulers turn that plan into the project schedule in P6. You lead them and keep the field moving against the plan.

This is a senior, site-based role. You work with the Project Director, superintendents, engineering, procurement and project controls, and you oversee the schedulers. If most of your work has been updating schedules that others built, this role will not be the right fit.

What You’ll Do
  • Build the full construction plan, from engineering, procurement and permitting through construction, commissioning and energization.
  • Break the plan into work fronts, sequences and lookaheads: daily, weekly, 3-week and 90-day.
  • Walk the site and identify what each phase needs. For example: a crane on site by a set date, 10 people now and 25 more in six weeks, or a road built before the next work front opens.
  • Plan the crews, equipment and materials each phase needs, including when to ramp up and ramp down.
  • Work with engineering and procurement so drawings, long-lead equipment and deliveries arrive when the field needs them.
  • Track the permits, road use agreements, work instructions and completion documents that can stop progress.
  • Walk the site. Compare what is being built against the plan and adjust before small issues become delays.
  • Track installed quantities and production rates. Use them to test forecasts and show the team what the field can produce.
  • Spot constraints, risks and opportunities early. Build alternate plans and recovery plans.
  • Work backward from energization and completion dates to set the construction sequence.
  • Lead the scheduling team. Give them the sequence, durations, crews and equipment to build into P6, then review the schedule to confirm it matches how the work will be built.
  • Step in for the Project Director when needed.
  • Report progress, risks and KPIs to project leadership.
What We’re Looking For
  • 10+ years planning large construction projects, including at least one greenfield project that ran a year or longer from start to finish.
  • Experience building the construction plan yourself, including sequencing, manpower, equipment and materials.
  • A background in pipeline construction or another large EPC environment, such as LNG, compressor stations, power generation or transmission.
  • Experience leading or overseeing schedulers or planners.
  • Strong working knowledge of Primavera P6 and resource-loaded schedules. You read and challenge the schedule. Your schedulers build it.
  • Working knowledge of how engineering, procurement and permitting affect field execution.
  • Time on active construction sites, working directly with superintendents and field leaders.
  • Ability to explain your plan clearly to field crews and to executives.
  • Willingness to work site-based on a rotation, with onsite weeks that may run 7 days.
Backgrounds That Fit

Titles vary across the industry. We will consider Lead Planners, Senior Planners, Planning Engineers, Planning Managers, Project Controls Leads, and field-based Project Managers or Construction Managers, from either the contractor or the owner side. What matters is that you built the plan.

Preferred Experience
  • Pipeline construction: mainline, spreads, compressor or meter stations.
  • Utility-scale solar, BESS, substation or transmission projects.
  • Familiarity with linear scheduling, such as TILOS.
  • Degree in Construction Management, Engineering or a related field.
  • PMP, AACE PSP or a similar certification.
This Role May Not Fit If
  • Your experience is mostly maintenance, turnaround, shutdown or outage work.
  • Your main focus has been updating and reporting on schedules that others built.
  • You want an office-based role.
What Success Looks Like
  • The field always knows what comes next, and the crews, equipment and materials are in place when it does.
  • You see problems weeks ahead and have a plan ready before they reach the field.

If you’re interested, reach out to us l us about the largest project you planned and how you built the plan.
