The plant runs in simple cycle mode and features four Siemens Westinghouse 501FD2 combustion turbines engineered for efficiency and reliability. With a nominal generating capacity of 660 megawatts, it plays a vital role in delivering dependable power to the region.
Opportunity SummaryThe Instrumentation, Controls and Electrical (IC&E) Technician position plays a critical role in ensuring the reliable and safe operation of Siemens Westinghouse 501FD2 combustion turbines and supporting plant systems. The role involves hands‑on maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of high‑ and low‑voltage electrical equipment up to 345 kV, including MCCs, switch gear, and protective systems essential to plant operations. Technicians apply advanced diagnostic tools and technical documentation to identify and resolve electrical, control, and station system issues impacting turbine performance and overall plant reliability.
Scopeof Responsibility Instrumentation, Controls and Electrical (IC&E) Systems Maintenance
- Adhere to all IC&E work practices in compliance with NFPA 70E, OSHA electrical safety standards, and plant‑specific lockout/tagout procedures.
- Inspect, install, maintain, and remove electrical and control equipment, including motors, transformers, starters, breakers, switches, wiring, and related devices for systems up to 345 kV.
- Read, interpret, and troubleshoot electrical schematics, ladder logic, PLC diagrams, P&IDs, and other documentation for turbine, station, and protection systems.
- Conduct real‑time troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and corrective repairs on turbine control systems, auxiliary control systems, and balance‑of‑plant control equipment.
- Apply advanced instrumentation and diagnostic tools—such as Fluke meters, calibrators, Trex communicators, Pie Cal devices, and oscilloscopes—to calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot instrumentation loops, transmitters, control valves, analyzers, and signal conditioning equipment.
- Assist with electrical and control system expansions, upgrades, and modifications, ensuring accurate updates to electrical drawings, loop sheets, and technical records.
- Monitor and operate Siemens Westinghouse 501FD2 combustion turbines and auxiliary systems, including executing safe and efficient start‑up and shutdown procedures, and responding to SCADA alarms to maintain effective plant control and visibility.
- Conduct equipment walkdowns using P&IDs and F&IDs to verify proper operation and identify abnormal conditions.
- Perform switching and tagging of mechanical and electrical systems safely under lead supervision, and operate and maintain plant tools and equipment—including vehicles, cranes, hoists, and welding tools—in accordance with safety practices.
- Forecast, track, and reorder spare parts while assisting with inventory control, documentation, and material availability.
- Maintain accurate logs, technical records, preventive maintenance documentation, and equipment files, including updating and preserving plant operating manuals, technical references, prints, and system diagrams.
- Support OSHA compliance, environmental requirements, and plant safety programs by participating in required training, emergency drills, and safety initiatives.
- Complete additional tasks and projects as assigned by the Plant Manager or designee.
