Project Engineer – Structural / Bridge

Spicer Group is seeking an experienced and motivated individual to join our Structural Services Group as a Project Engineer in Saginaw, St. Johns, or Bingham Farms. Typical projects include bridge rehabilitations & replacements, foundations, and structural support for industrial and manufacturing processes. Structural design will be completed using Finite Element Analysis and Open Bridge Designer. This is an opportunity to work at one of Michigan’s top engineering and surveying firms.

• Prepare designs, specifications, calculations, cost estimates, and more for projects across the region and country.
• Assist with preparation of proposals, budgeting, scheduling, and communication with clients on small to medium‑size projects.
• Lead a team of design engineers and coordinate project tasks for timely deliverables.
• Develop plans, specifications, and cost estimates for structural and bridge projects.
• Complete bridge field condition assessments, repair recommendations, scoping reports, life‑cycle analyses, and cost estimates.
• Perform quality control of all work product.
• Coordinate and communicate with team members, clients, contractors, and outside consultants.
• Recommend additions, deletions, or substitutions when modifications are necessary.
• Visit construction sites to review conditions.
• Attend project meetings, public hearings, and present technical information.
• Maintain knowledge base through professional literature and meetings.
• Supervise less experienced engineers and support personnel.
• Assist with business development and marketing activities.

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with a structural focus.
• Professional Engineer licensed in Michigan, or ability to obtain within one year.
• Minimum five years of related experience with bridge engineering and general structural engineering.
• Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
• Experience with AutoCAD and/or Micro Station.
• Familiarity with MDOT Bridge Design procedures is a plus.
• Experience with structural engineering analysis software such as RISA 3D, STAAD Pro, or MathCAD.
