Overview
Construction Engineer - Construction & Transportation Design. EMCS, Inc. provides civil engineering services including transportation engineering, structural engineering, traffic engineering, construction engineering, site development, environmental studies, and surveying. The company serves public and private clients on small and large-scale projects and was founded in 1983 with offices in Milwaukee, Wausau, and Madison, Wisconsin;
Indianapolis, Indiana; and Bergland, Michigan. We are seeking a civil engineer to join our growing team in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. This is a dual role offering field work during the construction season and transportation design focus for the remainder of the year. - Construction observation, inspection, and administration of DOT and local projects in northern Wisconsin and Michigan (Upper Peninsula)
- Interprets construction plans and documents, computes quantities and verifies measurements and layouts
- Maintains project documentation and daily reports of construction site activities
- Collaborates with project stakeholders (client, contractor, sub-consultants) and interacts with the public and officials to respond to inquiries and resolve problems
- Develops 3D models, exhibits, and plans for transportation, municipal, and site development projects
- Assists in technical design for a variety of civil engineering transportation projects
- Completes design and reports
- Coordinates with utility companies and other agencies
- Calculates quantities and develops construction cost estimates
- Participates in quality assurance and reviews of design plans, specifications, and estimates
- Participates in public involvement activities
- Position includes short or long term out-of-town project travel
- AS or BS degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management
- Previous professional or internship experience in the civil engineering field
- Previous DOT roadway/bridge construction inspection experience is a plus
- Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative team environment
- Proficiency with AutoCAD/Civil 3D;
Micro Station/InRoads is a plus - WisDOT Highway Technician Certification Program credentials, or ability to obtain certification (EMCS will provide training if needed)
- Proficiency with MS Office
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Valid driver’s license
