Position Summary: The Health Officer, under the direction of the Program Director, is responsible for ensuring the health and safety of campers and staff. The health officer will log medical records and treatment provided for campers and staff.
- Responsible for the health and safety of campers and staff who need first aid or who are hurt on the campgrounds.
- Ensure that the health office supplies are adequately stocked at all times, communicating with the Program Director any needs.
- Log medical records and medications for campers and staff.
- Pass medication to campers and staff as required.
- Assist with and participate in pre-camp training for staff.
- Effectively communicate and log any medical issues and problems as they occur to the Program Director.
- Monitor and evaluate camp procedures, facilities, and conditions to be able to suggest modifications that would create more healthful conditions in the camp.
- Ensure that all aspects of the camper experience are conducted in a compliant fashion for The Salvation Army “Safe From Harm”.
- The camp health officer is responsible for camper check-in, ensuring medical history forms and emergency authorizations are complete, conducting health screenings, including checking in medications, reviewing health history, discussing health needs with campers, observing physical state, checking for lice, and reporting significant issues.
- Report any accidents requiring a doctor’s care to the Camp Director or Assistant Camp Director promptly.
- Maintain accurate medical logs for all treatment and medications administered.
- Prepare remaining medications for return upon camper departure and assist in early departures as per policies.
- Obtain authorization before parental notification, and contact emergency services if necessary.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education/Experience:
- High school diploma / GED or equivalent.
- 18 years of age or older.
- Possess one of the following valid licenses: physician, physician’s assistant, nurse practitioner, registered nurse, practical nurse, emergency medical technician, medical first responder, or wilderness first responder certification.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, TEAMS, and SharePoint.
- Basic computer skills and willingness to learn new software.
Certificates and Licenses:
- Current First Aid / CPR certification.
- Safe From Harm training completed and current.
- Valid driver’s license and pass MVR check.
