Job Summary:

The physical therapist is a licensed Physical Therapist who organizes and conducts medically prescribed physical therapy programs to restore function and prevent disability following disease, injury, or loss of a body part. They assist patients in reaching their maximum performance and living within their limitations. The Physical Therapist supervises physical therapy staff in the absence of the Department Director. The Physical Therapist Assistant administers physical therapy treatments under the supervision of the Physical Therapist, including active and passive exercises, muscle re-education, gait and functional training, and modalities.

The assistant is responsible for executing the treatment plan as designed by the Physical Therapist.

Qualifications/Position Requirements:

Graduate of an APTA-accredited Physical Therapy Program/Physical Therapist Assistant Program.

Licensed physical therapist or physical therapist assistant in the state of Michigan.

BLS Certification required within 3 months of hire and recertification as required.

Ability to establish effective working relationships and communicate effectively with peers, patients, families, physicians, and support staff.

Supports hospital-wide initiatives by maintaining a broad perspective and participating in committees.

Ability to influence the direction of Physical Therapy Services positively.

Ability to handle multiple tasks in stressful situations while maintaining quality care.

Adaptability to changes in physical therapy practices and duties.

Ability to apply principles of quality physical therapy care and develop patient programs.

Demonstrates responsibility, initiative, honesty, and a positive attitude.

Knowledge of equipment such as whirlpools, traction devices, parallel bars, weights, etc.

Ability to delegate appropriate tasks to support staff.
