Job Description Fleet Parts & Equipment Specialist

Location:

Northville, MI

About Us:

We operate a dedicated corporate fleet of 140+ semi-trucks in the Metro Detroit corridor. We are seeking a highly organized, data-driven, Fleet Parts & Equipment Specialist to take complete ownership of our parts inventory, vendor relationships, and heavy shop equipment assets. This role is strictly operational and administrative; you will not be supervising diesel mechanics, but you will be one of their #1 resources to ensure zero down time.

Core Responsibilities:
  • Digital Inventory Management:
Own data entry, tracking, and auditing within our fleet maintenance platform. Set up precise minimum/maximum inventory thresholds for high-cycle Class 8 parts (brakes, drums, filters, fluids, emissions components).
  • Vendor & Procurement Strategy:
Leverage our 140-truck buying power. Establish and manage fleet-level pricing contracts with local Metro Detroit heavy-duty parts distributors and OEM dealers.
  • Shop Equipment Asset Management:
Maintain compliance, calibration schedules, and repair tracking for all heavy shop equipment (e.g., heavy duty truck lifts, commercial air compressors, JPRO/Nexiq diagnostic scanners, and specialized tooling).
  • Warranty & Core Tracking:
Meticulously track and process core returns and manufacturer warranty claims to ensure zero lost revenue for the fleet.
Required Qualifications:
  • 3+ years managing parts inventory specifically for Class 7 and 8 commercial trucks.
  • Proficiency with fleet maintenance platform technology (entering work orders, managing purchase orders, and tracking digital inventory).
  • Strong knowledge of local Metro Detroit heavy duty parts supply chains.
  • Deep understanding of preventative maintenance (PM) scheduling needs for a large corporate fleet.
  • Familiarity with industry regulations and compliance standards.
