Thermoforming Machine Operator

Summary

Sets up and operates one type of thermoforming machine to meet customer and company quality expectations.

• Sets up and operates one type of thermoforming machine (i.e., Sencorp or Kiefel) including start/stop, heater control, mold/plugs cleaning, scrap handling, installation of form tooling, trim tooling, picker tooling, stacker tooling; and locating hydraulic pumps, vacuum lines, water lines, shut-off valves; locating the pressure form line and managing pressure box and pin chain.
• Demonstrates machine safety knowledge (stanchions, e‑stops, pinch points, and other safety features).
• Identifies different tooling components (plugs, castings, trim dies, drapes, etc.).
• Removes and installs tooling to set up new jobs in less than two hours.
• Reviews the packaging guidelines/job packet prior to starting the job to ensure complete understanding of the quality and tooling specifications of the product.
• Utilizes a thickness gauge/micrometer and interprets part prints.
• Performs final packaging, including labeling and wrapping of skids.
• Performs utility and/or material handling duties as necessary.
• Loads film and prepares back roll as needed.
• Performs maintenance on equipment and tooling as necessary, and notifies management when maintenance exceeds personal capability so a Maintenance Technician can be contacted.
• Responds to and repairs hydraulic leaks and water leaks.
• Communicates and arranges tool design adjustments, die sharpening, etc., with the Die Shop.
• Maintains clean and tidy work areas.
• Performs facility enhancements and maintenance repairs on non‑production equipment as necessary, notifying management of projects beyond repair ability.
• Acts as line lead in directing runners and packers when a supervisor or lead is absent.
• Acts as a packer when necessary to cover production needs and can pack at the posted rate.
• Complies with Display Pack safety policies and procedures, reporting safety hazards/violations to a supervisor.
• Performs lockout/tag‑out procedures whenever a thermoforming machine needs to be worked on.
