Under general supervision and in collaboration with a physician, the CRNA will fulfill responsibilities according to educational preparation, clinical expertise and established standards, protocols and practices of advanced practice nurses. Responsibilities include the administration of anesthetics and adjunctive medications to render patients insensible to pain; monitoring patient’s condition while under anesthesia; initiation of corrective actions using professional judgment; and functioning as a team member to perform preoperative reassessment, preoperative assessment, anesthetic management and post‑anesthesia care of the patient.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Current State of Michigan RN License
  • Current certification through the National Board on Certification and Re-Certification of Nurse Anesthetists with compliance with all continuing education requirements.
  • Graduate of approved CRNA program
  • Current State of Michigan CRNA Specialty Certification
  • Current ACLS and BLS from the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performing and documenting a pre‑anesthesia assessment and evaluation of the patient.
  • Obtaining informed consent for anesthesia services from the patient or legal guardian (when applicable).
  • Developing and implementing an anesthetic plan for the patient.
  • Ordering/requesting medical consultation, lab tests, x‑rays, and other diagnostic studies, when applicable.
  • Selecting, obtaining, ordering and administration of pre‑anesthetic medications and fluids.
  • Selecting, applying, and/or inserting appropriate non‑invasive and invasive monitoring modalities.
  • Selecting, obtaining, and administering the anesthetics, adjuvant and accessory drugs, fluids, blood products necessary to manage the aesthetic and maintain the patient’s physiologic homeostasis.
  • Managing the patient’s airway and pulmonary status using current practice modalities.
  • Facilitating emergence and recovery from anesthesia by selecting, obtaining, ordering, and administering medications, fluids, and ventilator support.
  • Discharging the patient from the post‑anesthesia care area and providing post‑anesthesia follow‑up care.
