General

Purpose

The PRN On Call RN is responsible for providing direct care to ill and injured employees, utilizing the nursing process to recognize, evaluate, and prevent illness and injury. Applies nursing principles to guide employees toward achieving and maintaining optimum health. Will be responsible for some presentation and teaching and for clinic management responsibilities.

Essential Functions
  • Case management – monitors employees on restricted and medical leave status, assures documentation and appointments are met, reviews FMLA status, and serves as subject‑matter expert on Miller Knoll STD, LTD, and FMLA policies. Works with HRBPs, WTLs, and the EHS committee to maintain efficient processes.
  • Oversees and reports needs to the Corporate Health Manager, including supply ordering, form consistency, and policy compliance.
  • Provides health‐care teaching and training in both informal and formal settings, with knowledge of Miller Knoll wellness and benefits programs.
  • Conducts medical surveillance and occupational health programs required by law and policy; maintains and calibrates equipment for tests such as hearing, FIT, urine drug screening, and vision.
  • Staffs and manages onsite urgent care and walk‑in clinics during designated hours, familiar with clinic policies and procedures, and promotes clinic services to employees.
  • Provides treatment for occupational and non‑occupational illnesses and injuries within the scope of the Michigan Nurse Practice Act, documenting confidentially.
  • Conducts health history evaluations and establishes baseline testing for pre‑placement evaluation, monitoring results and notifying appropriate people‑services personnel.
  • Provides nursing and occupational health expertise to workers’ compensation administrators, safety managers, HRBPs, and manufacturing leadership.
  • Performs additional responsibilities as requested to achieve business objectives.

Education / Experience
  • Minimum of two years in an occupational health setting or two or more years in an emergency department, hospital, or public health setting.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Registered nurse with current Michigan license.
  • Must have or be able to obtain COHN (Certified Occupational Health Nurse).
  • MUST have or be able to obtain American Red Cross BLS (Basic Life Support).
  • Must certify to DOT, BAT, and UDS requirements within six months of hire.
Skills and Abilities
  • Function independently to assess and treat patients, plan daily work, and evaluate clinic needs.
  • Demonstrated high‑level written, verbal, and interpersonal skills for effective communication.
  • Ability to interpret and correctly respond to situations potentially affected by cultural differences.
  • Must be able to perform all essential functions with or without accommodations.
