About The UnitThis unit is comprised of 12 surgical suites and one procedure room. The unit’s primary specialties are General surgery, Orthopedics, Cardiothoracic, Neurosurgery, ENT, Urology, Podiatry, GYN, Plastics and Hand. The unit houses two DaVinci robots for our robotically trained teams in General surgery, Cardiothoracic, Urology, and GYN.
Scope of WorkThe Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA), possessing advanced knowledge of anatomy and physiology, and utilizing extensive patient assessment skills, collaborates with all health team members to ensure the most optimal patient outcome. Performs all activities at an expanded level of perioperative nursing practice executed within the context of the nursing process. Intra‑operatively, the RNFA actively assists the surgeon, performing observable, technical behaviors (cognitive, psycho‑motor, and affective) based on an extensive body of scientific knowledge, as specified in the Association of peri Operative Registered Nurses (AORN) Core Curriculum for the RNFA.
Qualifications- Associates in Nursing
- Bachelors in Nursing within 5 years
- MI Registered Nurse (RN)
- Successful completion of a competency‑based orientation program
- AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) within 90 days
- AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within 90 days
- Nurse in OR (CNOR) – CCI or Nurse in OR (CNOR) – AORN within 1 year
