As Mackinac Island’s only full-service, casually elegant resort, we are seeking a skilled and motivated Kitchen Lead to join our culinary team and help guide our kitchen operations while delivering exceptional food for our guests.
AboutThe Role
The Kitchen Lead plays a key role in overseeing daily kitchen operations, supervising culinary staff, and ensuring high standards of food preparation, quality, and presentation. This hands‑on leadership position involves supporting chefs, coordinating stations, managing prep and production, and maintaining safety and sanitation standards.
This position is ideal for a culinary professional with leadership experience who thrives in a fast‑paced kitchen, enjoys mentoring others, and takes pride in delivering well‑executed, flavorful dishes.
QualificationsWhat We’re Looking For
- Experience:
Previous kitchen lead, sous chef, or culinary supervisory experience preferred; resort or high-volume dining experience a plus. - Education/Training:
Culinary degree or equivalent professional kitchen experience. - Leadership
Skills:
Ability to supervise, train, and motivate a diverse team of kitchen staff. - Professional Traits:
Detail-oriented, reliable, organized, calm under pressure, and committed to culinary excellence. - Problem‑Solving:
Ability to handle challenges in a busy kitchen environment efficiently and effectively. - Communication:
Strong verbal communication and collaboration skills with kitchen and front‑of‑house teams. - Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and work in a fast‑paced kitchen environment. - Location Requirement:
Must be able to live and work on Mackinac Island during the operating season.
