Assistant Store Manager

Job Overview

The Assistant Store Manager supports the Store Manager in all aspects of store operations, including managing employees, ensuring excellent customer service, and maximizing sales. This development role is intended for those who aspire to become a Retail Store Manager.

Responsibilities
  • Recruit, interview, select, and retain store employees.
  • Manage and develop employees for optimal performance in sales and store operations.
  • Develop team selling skills and product knowledge.
  • Ensure smooth store operation: inventory management, expense monitoring, promotional execution, and employee scheduling.
  • Handle customer inquiries and complaints, ensuring a positive shopping experience.
  • Create relationships with customers to suggest products.
  • Meet or exceed store sales and operational goals.
  • Collaborate with the Store Manager and other employees to achieve financial targets.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, organized store environment, enforcing company policies and procedures.
  • Provide feedback and recommendations to the Store Manager on employees, operations, and sales.
  • Manage daily operations: inventory, cash handling, staffing, customer service, and cleanliness.
  • Stand on the sales floor, coach employees, and run day‑to‑day business activities.
  • Open and close the store.
  • Work full‑time hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Requirements / Knowledge and Skills
  • Written and oral communication skills.
  • Customer service experience.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency.
  • Store operations knowledge.
  • Basic math skills (adding and subtracting).
Qualifications
  • At least 21 years old.
  • Completion of a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Flexible to work weekends, holidays, and occasional 12‑hour shifts.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
