Mechanical Tradesperson

Overview

Mechanical Tradesperson role at Mativ — Munising, MI. This is an hourly paid, full-time position with a rotating shift schedule. The maintenance team supports paper machines, offline coating/saturating lines, and general mill needs. The position reports to the Maintenance Manager.

The Munising facility is located on the southern shore of Lake Superior and offers access to numerous outdoor and recreational opportunities.

• Ensure that manufacturing processes are maintained in a preventative fashion to ensure optimum reliability and up time
• Conduct preventative and corrective maintenance of equipment and troubleshoot problems while applying theory and related knowledge to install, rebuild, or repair equipment as needed
• Assist with all service calls while on duty
• Ensure all required tools, parts and supplies are available for each job performed, complete required service records and be responsible for recommending and/or initiating equipment modifications and/or replacement of components
• Responsible for understanding, maintaining and troubleshooting

• Follow all safety rules and safe work procedures for themselves and others working in and around machinery
• Report injuries and near misses in a timely manner
• Maintain housekeeping standards
• Participate in team safety meetings, discussions, and training opportunities
• Follow safety procedures such as Lockout, Confined Space, PPE, etc.
• Participate in crew discussions prior to major events

• A minimum of 4 years’ experience
• Willing to work rotating shifts/overtime
• Technical/problem solving skills
• Team-oriented to meet business objectives
• Or, any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience

• Journeyman card and/or state license preferred
• Experience as millwright, pipefitter, mechanic, machinist, and/or carpenter in an industrial environment

• Ability to work seven days per week when required
• Ability to work sixteen hours per day when required
• Ability to work shifts
• Ability to respond to call-ins at any time of day or night
• Ability to maintain acceptable attendance
• Ability to wear required PPE
• Physical ability to bend, kneel, squat and stoop; read and understand instructions and manuals
• Ability to climb stairs and work from ladders, scaffolds, lifts and platforms
• Ability to operate manual and powered material handling equipment
• Ability to work in extreme temperatures and in enclosed spaces
• Ability to work on and around moving equipment
• Ability to lift/move up to 50 pounds
• Willing to travel for training if required
• Ability to learn and use PC-based systems
