The incumbent is employed as a Carpenter Foreman to manage and supervise the American Carpenter Shop. The incumbent will direct or perform skilled carpenter, painter and key‑smith tasks in the Embassy and Consulate Compounds. The incumbent assigns or performs work generated by the Global Maintenance Management System (GMMS) and other work as directed. The incumbent attends required meetings, approves time sheets, facilitates ordering of parts and supplies, and manages schedules to ensure proper staffing.
Travel to support maintenance at other posts may be required.
- Supervision:
Direct the work of American carpenters, painters, key‑smith, lock‑smith personnel and others as assigned. Review the performance of assigned work for proper installation and timely completion. Delegate the maintenance work orders as generated by the GMMS. Ensure proper staffing by managing vacations and leave. Approve and verify accuracy of timesheets submitted by subordinates. Provide evaluations of subordinates as required. - Maintenance functions:
Direct and perform general carpentry maintenance and repairs to include furniture, doors, windows, screens, door locks and hardware. Direct and perform replacement of ceiling tiles and general repairs of drop ceiling grids. Direct and perform other related tasks as assigned. - New installations:
Perform new installation or replacement of carpet, tile, linoleum, cove base, drop ceiling grids. Perform installation of new walls, metal studs and drywall. Design and make wooden crates for shipping. Utilize fixed saws, planers, routers of the carpentry shop to make furniture, frames and other special projects as directed. - Reports:
Maintain records of all work accomplished and parts used. Utilize GMMS to manage and document work orders. Provide overtime projections, quarterly reports and other required correspondence. Comply with all related published directives, work standards and technical publications. Perform audits of work orders in accordance with the quality assurance program and report results to American Facilities Supervisor. Address issues or deficiencies with staff.
Perform other duties as assigned.
- Completed secondary school or obtained a General Educational Development (GED).
- Oral and written communication skills sufficient to produce employee evaluations and written reports for upper management and to brief upper management on project status.
- Occasional requirement to lift 50 lbs. without assistance.
- Work from elevated platforms and ladders required.
- A Top Secret clearance is required.
- Completed a certified carpenter training program or equivalent.
- Current documented experience required.
- Five years’ experience as a carpenter performing rough carpentry, finish carpentry, cabinetmaking, and furniture repair.
- Working knowledge of painting, key‑smith, various carpentry shop equipment, roofing, concrete forms and finishing, carpet and flooring installation, drywall, and door installation preferred.
- Five years’ experience directing and managing personnel as a foreman, lead or supervisor preferred.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
