Overview
BUS DRIVER - SUBSTITUTE
The Substitute Bus Driver will be responsible for the safe transportation of students of the Allegan Public School System. Other duties involve managing the operation of the school bus to ensure a safe and hazard-free environment for all students.
Responsibilities- Comply with all traffic ordinances and laws governing the operation of a school vehicle
- Demonstrate proficiency in handling and maneuvering a school bus
- Participate in all required training and in-service
- Perform assigned duties within the scheduled time frame
- Perform and properly complete daily pre- and post-trip inspections of bus
- Responsible for cleanliness of bus interior and maintain a safe and barrier-free aisle
- Comply with district policies regarding student discipline and communication
- Display professional behavior at all times while representing the school district
- High School diploma or GED
- Must meet health requirements of the State of Michigan (physical required)
- Must possess a valid Michigan driver’s license and have a clean driving record
- Must submit to a Criminal Background Check, as required by state law
- Must have or be able to obtain a CDL license, including B, P, S, and air brake endorsements
School year only - Substitute position currently with the possibility of a permanent route becoming available. Benefits per agreement between the Allegan Public Schools and the Allegan Bus Drivers
SalaryTraining wages $15 per hour / Beginning wage for sub bus drivers is $21.31 per hour (prior years of experience may be granted) and regular route bus drivers is $22.94.

Physical DemandsContinuously required to sit and occasionally required to walk or stand. Frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk. Frequently repeat the same hand, arm or finger motion many times. Frequently use hand strength to grasp tools. Occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds such as students. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception and peripheral vision.
