Interlochen is seeking dependable, service-oriented Student Support Drivers to provide safe, reliable transportation for students. This year-round position plays an important role in supporting students' transportation needs, including medical, dental, and counseling appointments, approved off-campus activities, and other scheduled transportation. Drivers help students access the services and experiences they need while providing a safe, supportive, and welcoming environment.

As part of Interlochen's Transit team, drivers work closely with campus departments to coordinate transportation, accommodate changing schedules, and ensure students arrive safely and on time. Opportunities are available for both Driver I and Driver II positions, with Driver II requiring a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) to operate buses and other assigned vehicles. We are primarily seeking full-time drivers with a consistent Monday through Friday daytime schedule.

We may also consider candidates interested in regular part-time opportunities who have dependable weekday availability. Some scheduling flexibility may be needed based on student transportation needs.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Safely transport students to medical, dental, and counseling appointments, approved off-campus activities, and other scheduled destinations.
  • Provide timely, reliable transportation while minimizing disruptions to students' academic and artistic schedules.
  • Maintain professional, appropriate, and supportive interactions with students.
  • Coordinate with campus departments regarding transportation schedules, pickup locations, delays, and changing needs.
  • Use transportation management software, tablets, and other technology to receive assignments, communicate updates, and document trips.
  • Adapt to schedule changes and evolving transportation needs throughout the day.
  • Safely operate assigned vehicles, including passenger cars, SUVs, vans, and, for Driver II positions, buses.
  • Conduct routine vehicle inspections and promptly report maintenance or safety concerns.
  • Follow applicable traffic laws, vehicle safety regulations, and Interlochen transportation procedures.
  • Support additional student transportation needs, including airport transportation, performances, special events, and other approved activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Experience and Skills
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record required.
  • Driver I:
Ability to obtain a chauffeur's license within 30 days of hire.
  • Driver II:
Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements required.
  • Strong commitment to safety, reliability, and excellent service.
  • Ability to interact professionally and appropriately with students of varying ages.
  • Good judgment, discretion, and effective communication skills.
  • Comfortable using technology, including tablets and transportation management software.
  • Ability to work independently, follow schedules, and adapt to changing transportation needs.
  • Consistent weekday daytime availability; additional scheduling flexibility is valued.
  • Previous professional driving experience is not required for Driver I. Experience in education, healthcare, public safety, hospitality, transportation, or other service-oriented fields is welcomed.
  • Experience operating commercial passenger vehicles is valued for Driver II.
