School Adjustment Counselor – Long Term Substitute
This position is from approximately January 20 to mid April, 2026 (or longer).
DESE Certified Substitute Rate of Pay: $140 per day; $294.42 per day after 30 days.
Duties and Responsibilities- Maintain learning expectations of students at all times.
- Counsel students whose behavior, school progress, or cognitive, emotional or physical condition necessitates assistance.
- Encourage parents and students to participate in the learning process through frequent and meaningful communication about students’ personal and academic progress.
- Assess students referred for counseling due to school adjustment concerns.
- Provide counseling interventions and social skills training in an individual/group setting.
- Consult with staff and guardians regarding student concerns and refer to outside agencies as appropriate.
- Facilitate the completion of Functional Behavior Assessments and Behavior Intervention Plans.
- Actively participate in the Building Emergency Response Team and Child Study Team Meetings.
- Background knowledge of and experience with students who have emotional disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, and other social/adjustment challenges.
- Assist teachers and staff in behavioral interventions and strategies to assist learning.
- Develop and implement a positive system of student recognition.
- Recommend change of class or school, special tutoring, or other treatment to assist in helping students succeed.
- Ensure that all students are offered equitable opportunities to participate in school activities.
- Provide resources for faculty and parents to address students’ needs.
- Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with all members of the school community to carry out responsibilities.
- Provide the assigned student population the help needed to become acquainted with the educational programs, support services, policies and procedures, and facilities of the school system.
- Provide counseling services as defined in student’s IEP and 504 plans.
- Maintain a point of contact for all students and their parents in terms of academic, behavioral, and social progress.
- Other duties as reasonably assigned by the Principal, Assistant Principals and/or Director of Student Services.
