McLean Hospital, America's top ranked freestanding psychiatric hospital, is inviting applications for a full-time Staff Psychologist at the McLean Adolescent Acute Residential and Partial Hospital Programs located at McLean South East in Middleborough.
Role OverviewThe Staff Psychologist will join the collaborative multidisciplinary team to engage in direct clinical work, supervision and training, psychological assessment, and research. Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is the overarching treatment modality used to treat patients experiencing a variety of psychiatric and psychosocial challenges—including suicidal and non‑suicidal self‑injurious behaviors, mood and anxiety disorders, substance misuse, psychosis, and trauma reactivity.
As the primary clinician assigned to a caseload of patients, the Staff Psychologist will provide individual therapy, lead family meetings, and complete case management responsibilities. The psychologist will also supervise psychology practicum students, interns, and fellows, support the training and consultation offered to trainees and colleagues, and offer occasional consultation and coverage at the McLean South East Adolescent Inpatient Program.
Essential Functions- Active participation in a multi‑disciplinary treatment team.
- Assisting patients and families with identifying and reaching short‑term treatment goals to be addressed in acute care settings.
- Leading therapeutic groups.
- Collaborating with patients, families, outpatient providers, schools, and state agencies to develop comprehensive crisis and disposition plans.
- Educating family members and staff on mental health disorders and evidence‑based treatments.
- Documenting patient psychosocial evaluations, progress notes, and treatment plans.
- Protecting the healthcare organization’s value by maintaining confidentiality and alerting others of potential breaches.
- Attending clinical rounds up to four times weekly, in addition to weekly clinician consultation team meetings.
- Participating in weekly individual supervision.
- Engaging in research opportunities and supporting program and early‑career staff in developing and submitting publications.
- Performing psychological assessment with a focus on diagnostic clarification and providing individualized recommendations for complex clinical presentations.
Ph.D. or Psy.
D. degree in Psychology from an accredited school of psychology. Requires valid Massachusetts licensure or license eligibility appropriate to clinical discipline. Applicants who are license‑eligible or in the process of becoming licensed in Massachusetts may be considered.
Experience with patient and staff consultation, DBT or other evidence‑based practices, and clinical intervention with children, adolescents, and/or families. Up to one year of preferred experience in providing supervision, completing psychological testing, and/or engaging in research responsibilities.

Salary and recruitment package will follow hospital policies. A Harvard Medical School appointment at the academic rank of Lecturer, Instructor or Assistant Professor (full or part‑time) will be contingent on meeting the requirements for an HMS appointment and candidate qualifications.
