Staff Counsel

Midland Credit Management, an Encore Capital Group Company, is hiring a Staff Counsel I to manage and resolve the company’s collection litigation matters. The role supports corporate compliance with laws and regulations governing debt collection and related activities. Candidates must have current authorization to work in the United States on a full‑time basis.

• Create, review, direct and resolve collection litigation matters cost‑effectively and in a compliant manner.
• Ensure adherence to relevant company policies, state, federal and local regulations.
• Maintain and enhance the company reputation with courts, vendors, outside counsel, and consumers; limit company exposure through effective advocacy on behalf of the Company in hearings, trials and mediations.
• Negotiate with opposing counsel, conduct discovery and respond to discovery requests.
• Prepare and attend hearings and trials.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Education: Master’s or Advanced JD degree from an accredited law school.
• Experience: No legal work experience required.
• Certification: Juris Doctorate.
• Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Attributes: Good attention to detail, accuracy and follow‑through; sound judgment and discretion; good communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.

• Education: Master’s or Advanced JD degree from an ABA‑accredited law school.
• Experience: No legal work experience required.
• Certification: Juris Doctorate.
• Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Attributes: Experience with the Microsoft suite of products.
