Overview
Middlebury's Betty Ashbury Jones MA '86 School of French is accepting applications for temporary Instructors of French for the Summer 2026 session. The program will be in person on the Middlebury College campus in Vermont. Employment dates are June 24 to August 14, 2026 (dates subject to minor changes).
Our 7-week program combines a cultural immersion environment with rigorous daily classroom instruction. Instructors teach, dine, reside and recreate with students, using French for reading, writing and speaking. Instructors provide up to four hours of classroom instruction daily and hold formal office hours several times per week. Participation in pre- and post-session assessment, testing and cultural programming may be required. Full-time on-campus residence is required for the duration of the summer program.
This position is for Summer 2026 only.
• Teach French as a Second Language in a diverse, immersive setting
• Lead up to four hours of classroom instruction daily and participate in program-related activities
• Engage in pre- and post-session assessment, testing and cultural programming as required
• Provide formal office hours and collaborate with instructional team
• Maintain in-person and remote teaching competencies as needed
• Live on campus for the duration of the program
Qualifications- Master's degree or equivalent and substantial experience teaching French as a Second Language in higher education
- Experience in Francophone and North American teaching environments preferred
- Demonstrated teaching excellence in French as a foreign language
- Native or near-native fluency in French
- Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills and ability to work as part of an instructional team
- Demonstrated ability to lead co-curricular activities as part of the language curriculum
- Competence in both in-person and remote teaching is preferred

- Travel costs to and from Middlebury are not included
