Middlebury College's Summer School of Japanese (SoJ) is pleased to announce a vacancy for a temporary Instructor of Japanese. The position is available for soJ's summer 2026 session and is located on Middlebury College campus in Vermont. The in‑person program begins June 18 and ends August 14, 2026. Online orientation and/or workshops may be required before the starting date. Our unique 8‑week program combines a cultural immersion environment with rigorous classroom instruction.
Compensation will be determined during 1:1 conversations with the hiring manager.
Core Responsibilities- Actively engage in teaching, dining, residing, and recreation with students while reading, writing and speaking exclusively in Japanese.
- Demonstrated teaching excellence in Japanese as a foreign language, being native or near‑native in Japanese and the ability to lead co‑curricular activities that are an integral part of the language curriculum.
- Possession of a master’s degree or higher, strong interpersonal skills, and demonstrated success as a member of an instructional team.
- Creative, dynamic, and easy‑going approach is a plus.
- Submit a letter of interest, CV, recent statistical information from student evaluations, and two letters of recommendation. A Japanese language teaching demo and sample of materials development are recommended.
