Position Overview
3-Year Visiting Assistant Professor – Fall 2026
The Department of Geography invites applicants for a 3-year visiting assistant professorship beginning in the Fall of 2026. The successful candidate will teach introductory and advanced courses in Cartography and Geovisualization as well as elective courses in their areas of expertise. We are open to any number of thematic or regional specializations that complement our existing departmental strengths. In addition, candidates will have the opportunity to teach an upper-level senior seminar at least once during the three-year term.
TeachingResponsibilities
Applicants are expected to have a Ph.D. in Geography by June 30, 2026. The role requires teaching of first- and second-year courses in Cartography and Geovisualization, the development and instruction of upper-level courses in the candidate’s specialization, and the teaching of a senior seminar at least once during the appointment.
Research ExpectationsFuture faculty will be expected to pursue research in the Cartography and Geovisualization area, including the publication of papers in peer‑reviewed journals, the development of cartographic and geovisualization tools, and the active engagement in interdisciplinary research initiatives within the Geography Department and beyond.
QualificationsIndividuals must hold a Ph.D. in Geography or a closely related field by the specified deadline. Candidates should demonstrate excellence in teaching, potential for original research, and the ability to contribute to a diverse and inclusive campus community.
Compensation and BenefitsFull time, benefits‑eligible, salaried position with a hiring range of $88,963 – $100,129 per year.
