OverviewThe Department of Mathematics and Statistics invites applicants for a full‑time tenure‑track position beginning fall 2026. A Ph.D. in Mathematics should normally be in hand by the time of appointment. The department seeks candidates who will contribute to teaching our core major requirements in analysis and algebra and offer electives in areas such as complex analysis, representation theory, number theory, or logic that augment our curriculum.
Responsibilities- Teach undergraduate courses, from introductory calculus to senior level offerings, in analysis and algebra.
- Develop and deliver courses in electives such as complex analysis, representation theory, number theory, or logic.
- Advise, mentor, and supervise undergraduate students in research projects.
- Contribute regularly to Middlebury’s First Year Seminar Program and Winter Term course offerings as described in our teaching load guidelines.
- Participate in service to the College, including committee membership and serving as Director or Chair of a Program or Department when asked.
- A Ph.D. in Mathematics, in hand or expected by fall 2026.
- Evidence of a promising research program that includes ways to involve undergraduate students.
- Demonstrated capacity to include undergraduates in a research program.
- Strong teaching vision for mathematics in a liberal arts setting.
- A letter of application.
- A teaching statement that includes your vision for teaching mathematics in a liberal arts setting.
- A research description that includes ways you might include undergraduate students.
- A curriculum vitae, graduate transcript, and three letters of recommendation, at least two of which speak to teaching ability.
- In your application materials, address how your teaching, research, and/or service might support our commitment to a truly open and supportive learning, teaching, and working environment.
