Position summaryWe're looking for a career‑minded Water/Wastewater Engineer who is interested in growing with us and taking on more responsibility over time. You'll help lead and support design work on a variety of water and wastewater projects, using your understanding of design standards, regulations and best practices. Day‑to‑day, you'll juggle multiple projects, keep schedules up to date, work through key design details and collaborate with the team to make sure everyone's on the same page.
The work will primarily be in Kentucky, Tennessee and Virginia, supporting a steady pipeline of meaningful and impactful projects. We're looking for someone who can deliver solid engineering work with limited supervision, stay on schedule and produce quality work and reliable solutions for our clients.
- Analyze project requirements and information from alternative studies to develop an accurate report for submittal.
- Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography and other topographical or geologic data to plan projects/tasks.
- Assess collection/distribution system performance deficiencies, predict future issues and develop solutions for planning and design projects.
- Demonstrate familiarity with hydraulic designs, sewer rehabilitation, water and sewer design, water and wastewater pump stations and treatment process design, engineering economics, preparation of specifications and engineering report writing.
- Have a firm grasp of general heavy construction principles; environmental facilities operations‑related experience is a plus.
- Perform design computations.
- Design projects in accordance with client specifications and guidelines, using design software and drawing tools.
- Develop or review the construction cost estimate.
- Prepare and compile contract plans, specifications and estimates.
- Attend meetings with clients and assist in taking meeting minutes.
- Coordinate with other disciplines and understand how they fit into the project and design.
- Perform quality review of project design in accordance with the Project Management Plan.
- Provide technical oversight and guidance/support of Design Engineers within the department.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- 5‑10 years of experience.
- A bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering from an ABET‑accredited university.
- Proficiency in related design software including AutoCAD Civil 3D, Revit, ArcGIS and MS Project.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Strong written and communication skills.
- Possess a Professional Engineering License.
- Experience working with local clients at the county and state level.
Work is performed within a general office environment 95% of the time. It is generally sedentary, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.
Field work is required on occasion, where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be required as needed.
