Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for an adult mental health consultant psychiatrist to become involved the PICU service. PICU facilities are provided at the 10 bedded Bedale Ward, which is also based at Roseberry Park Hospital, Middlesbrough. In addition to the inpatient services at Roseberry Park Hospital are provided within three acute commissioned admissions units, in a total of 52 beds distributed in three single sex wards.

The inpatient services, led by a team of consultant psychiatrists, will be supported by Specialty Doctors and SpRs. There is existing additional support from one non-medical AC trained consultant to adult services in the Roseberry Park Hospital.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will act as Responsible Clinician for In Patients on Bedale Ward, shared with the Consultant or Highly Specialised Psychologist. The post holder (in conjunction with the Specialist Psychologist) will provide committed, proactive and responsible leadership, and support the Force Reduction drivers. The consultants will jointly chair the 24 hour morning Report Out meeting when decisions are made about patient care and the management plan, risk and leave arrangements are reviewed.

Tasks are allocated at the meeting and reviewed the following morning. The Consultant will attend and fully contribute to the 72 formulation meeting (when admission to PICU occurs before formulation) and transfer/discharge planning meetings for their own patients. The Consultant will undertake seclusion reviews on Bedale Ward for their own patients. The Consultant will be responsible for Mental Health Act work including acting as Approved clinician for Bedale Ward patients.

The Consultant will provide appropriate supervision to Junior Medical Staff. The Consultant will be expected to liaise with other ward and community teams and Consultants. Consultant annual leave is arranged with the Consultant Psychologist and Consultant Psychiatrist colleagues.
