Hardware Engineer, Embedded Software Engineer, Electronics Engineer
Job Overview
Part of the Debugger and Probes team within the Central Engineering - Software group, we build tools and products with the aim of supporting SoC and OEM vendors with their silicon bring-up, verification and collateral software, all using the latest IP products from Arm and other vendors.
We are seeking a Hardware Engineer to support the development, evolution, and manufacture of the DSTREAM family of high-performance debug and trace probes, as well as related development tools!
ResponsibilitiesWe build and develop embedded hardware for DSTREAM probes and related JTAG, trace, and boundary-scan products as part of a team delivering debug hardware and software for Arm development tools.
Your work will include hardware verification, board bring-up, schematic design, component selection and technical investigations. The role will involve MCU-based control boards and more complex SoC- and FPGA-based designs, including boards with high pin-count devices, multiple power domains, high-speed interfaces such as USB and Ethernet, and design for test and manufacturing.
As a team of hardware, FPGA, and software engineers, we work together to define interfaces, review designs, resolve integration issues, and support prototype build, production test, and delivery into manufacture.
Required Skills and Experience- Creating schematic designs for embedded products with a focus on quality, testing and manufacturing.
- Supporting board bring-up, hardware debugging, and root-cause analysis in the lab.
- Design for test and manufacture, including support for prototypes, production, manufacturing issues, and component selection.
- Working understanding of common board-level interfaces and protocols, including UART, I2C, SPI, and JTAG, with awareness of signalling standards and higher-speed interfaces such as DDR and LVDS.
- Working effectively in a multi-discipline team, including reviewing others' work with clear, constructive feedback.
- PCB layout for embedded products with tools such as Altium Designer.
- Developing boundary scan tests, and supporting them in a production environment using XJTAG.
- Hands‑on experience with microcontrollers in board design, as well as their boot/debug flows.
- Ability to write or modify simple embedded firmware for bring-up, test, and debug.
- Mixed‑signal design experience, for example in power supply design.
- Experience considering component availability, lead times, and prototype/manufacturing logistics as part of hardware development.
