What You’ll Do:

The Project Engineer supports the planning, coordination, and delivery of heavy civil and industrial construction projects, including highways, bridges, utilities, earthwork, dams, marine, and rail work. Serving as a link between field operations, project management, subcontractors, and the owner, the Project Engineer helps keep projects on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with contract requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

Champion a safety-first culture by actively participating in the implementation and enforcement of the Company's safety program.

Prepare, track, and manage submittals, RFIs, change orders, and transmittals.

Maintain contract documents, drawings, specifications, and revision logs; prepare daily reports, meeting minutes, and progress documentation.

Assist with schedule updates, look-ahead schedules, and critical path analysis.

Perform quantity takeoffs, verify installed quantities, and assist with monthly pay applications and subcontractor billing.

Track project costs against budget, identify variances, and support change order pricing and claims documentation.

Coordinate daily activities with superintendents, foremen, and subcontractors.

Review plans and specifications for constructability, conflicts, and missing information.

Support survey, layout, and field engineering activities; verify that work meets plans, specifications, and tolerances.

Implement the project quality control plan, including inspections, testing, and material certifications.

Support site safety activities, including job hazard analyses (JHAs), toolbox talks, and incident reporting.

Help ensure compliance with environmental, permitting, and regulatory requirements, including stormwater pollution prevention and erosion control.

Communicate with owners, inspectors, engineers of record, and regulatory agencies; participate in project coordination, progress, and safety meetings.

Help resolve field issues promptly and document resolutions.

Must be willing to work in varying outdoor conditions, travel as needed, and maintain a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and on‑call work, as required.

Other Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering/Management, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of heavy civil or industrial construction experience.
  • Working knowledge of construction contracts, specifications, and drawings.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, exercise sound technical judgment, and collaborate with field and office teams.
  • Ability to work on active construction sites in varying weather conditions.
  • EIT/FE certification or progress toward Professional Engineer (PE) licensure preferred.
  • Experience with Vista, Procore, Primavera P6, MS Project, Bluebeam, or comparable construction management software preferred.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, GPS‑based layout systems, or machine control technology preferred.
  • OSHA 30, First Aid/CPR, or other relevant safety certifications a plus.
  • Experience with public‑sector construction projects (DOT, municipal, or federal), including familiarity with prevailing wage and Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) requirements, preferred.
