The State of Connecticut, Department of Children and Families (DCF) – Albert J. Solnit Children’s Center – South Campus, is accepting applications for one (1) full‑time State School Teacher position in Middletown, CT. You will work extensively with teachers and administration to help students improve their learning skills, providing strategies to support the development of motor skills, language skills, social skills, decision making, risk‑taking, and inventiveness.
Collaboration with classroom teachers and support staff, monitoring student progress, and administering assessments as necessary are integral parts of the role.

Full‑time | 1st shift | 35 Hours per week (Monday – Friday, 7:50 am – 3:20 pm)
Special Education 165 Certificate Required
You will be responsible for:
- Teaching early intervention, elementary, secondary, special subject, and/or special education curricula.
- Developing educational plans for individuals and groups at material level to students’ ability.
- Setting short and long‑term goals and evaluating student progress.
- Participating in planning team meetings and case‑review conferences to assess student behavior.
- Collaborating with professionals in ancillary educational roles.
- Maintaining student records and writing reports.
- Holding conferences with parents or other concerned parties regarding student performance.
- Performing related work as required.
- Deep understanding of the philosophy and methods of education and teaching.
- Knowledge of principles and practices for educating special‑needs populations.
- Proficiency in student program needs and goal setting.
- Ability to motivate students, communicate at an appropriate level, and establish cooperative relationships.
- Skill in preparing written reports.
Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience working with students with mental‑health concerns in a hospital setting.
- Experience teaching multiple subject areas.
- Employment conditional upon possession of a valid Connecticut State Board of Education teaching certificate appropriate to the assignment.
- Incumbents may be required to possess and retain a current Connecticut motor vehicle operator’s license.
