JOB DESCRIPTION:

OPTOMETRIC TECHNICIAN LEVEL 1

Job Summary

Optometric technicians are responsible for patient check-in, exam pre-test, exam lane testing, exam post-test, and patient check-out.

General Accountabilities including but not limited to

Prepare for the day by arriving on time and ready to work.

Greet patients in a friendly and welcoming manner.

Perform patient check-in, fee presentation, pre-testing, entrance testing, vision checking, refraction, contact lens fitting, and check-out.

Properly receive and account for patient payments and copays.

Answer phones and schedule appointments.

Verify insurance eligibility.

Place contact lens orders and encourage patients to order through the practice.

Conduct contact lens training classes with patients.

Assist physicians in performing procedures and tests.

Ensure equipment is functioning properly; contact support or management if needed.

Schedule referrals.

Complete all duties before clocking out.

Stock and clean exam lanes.

Maintain cleanliness in general areas, including break room, bathrooms, floors, and common areas.

Participate in training new staff members.

Engage in staff training programs or continuing education events.

Note:

Duties may be added or changed at any time.

Weekend availability is mandatory.

Job Qualifications

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience:

Healthcare or customer service experience recommended but not required.

Skills

Technologically savvy.
Strong communication skills.
Efficiency.
Customer service orientation.
Sales skills.
