Introduction

Are you ready to take the next step in your Psychology career, while continuing to make a difference in the lives of others? If so, then the Albert J. Solnit Children’s Center is looking for you. The State of Connecticut, Department of Children and Families (DCF) is seeking qualified individuals for Post‑Doctoral Fellow Psychologist (Clinical) positions located at the Albert J.

Solnit Children’s Center, South Campus Hospital. The Albert J. Solnit Children's Center – South Campus is a state‑administered psychiatric facility for Connecticut’s children who are under the age of eighteen, located on a 67‑acre campus at 915 River Road, Middletown, CT 06457. This full‑time, 40‑hour work week position is Monday‑Friday, 8:30 am‑5:00 pm, with one evening 11:00 am‑7:00 pm shift. Schedule flexibility may be needed to meet the needs of the agency.

Responsibilities
  • Manage a primary caseload of 2–3 youth, conduct individual, group, and family therapy.
  • Perform comprehensive psychological assessments, including selection, administration, scoring, and interpretation of intelligence, achievement, personality, and diagnostic tests.
  • Write professional reports, case histories, discharge summaries, and associated documentation.
  • Select and administer diagnostic tests to patients/clients with psychopathological manifestations; analyze results and develop treatment plans.
  • Conduct individual and group psychotherapy, family counseling, and community consultations under supervision.
  • Make recommendations for transfer, discharge, and follow‑up activities.
  • Participate in development, implementation, and coordination of new service programs.
  • Conduct psychological research.
  • Assist in supervision of psychology interns as needed.
  • Perform related duties as required.
Knowledge, Skill & Ability
  • Considerable knowledge of abnormal and clinical psychology.
  • Knowledge of other psychological disciplines and experience with selection, administration, scoring, and evaluation of various psychological tests.
  • Knowledge of psychological research techniques.
  • Interpersonal skills and oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to make psychological diagnosis and prognosis, conduct psychotherapy, provide consultation and training services, write case histories, discharge summaries, and professional reports, and relate experimental data to treatment modalities.
Graduation & Experience Requirements
  • Graduated from an educational program approved by the Board of Examiners of Psychologists with consent of the Commissioner of Public Health (generally a doctorate degree in psychology from an APA‑accredited program).
  • Completion of a one‑year clinical internship.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience providing clinical services to children, adolescents, and/or transition‑age youth with complex psychiatric profiles and to their families.
  • Experience collaborating with community systems of care.
  • Experience implementing evidence‑based practice and working as part of a multidisciplinary clinical team.
  • Experience providing clinical services to a culturally diverse population.
  • Experience utilizing varying testing measures with considerable knowledge and skill in selection, administration, scoring, and evaluation of intelligence achievement, and personality and diagnostic tests for adolescents.
Special Requirements
  • May be required to be fluent in a foreign language or proficient in the use of American Sign Language.
  • May be required to travel.
Working Conditions
  • May be required to lift and restrain patients/clients.
  • May have some exposure to communicable/infectious diseases and risks of injury from assaultive/abusive patients/clients.
  • May be exposed to disagreeable conditions.
