Shift Supervisor F/T

Goodwill of Southern New England is looking for a dedicated Shift Supervisor to assist the Store Manager in all operations of the Goodwill Retail Store or Outlet.

Pay
: $18.50 per hour.
Hourly Pay Range
: $17.72 – $23.74.

Summary

Assists the Store Manager in all operations of the Goodwill Retail Store or Outlet as described below.

Special Requirements

Will typically be required to work regular weekend (Saturday, Sunday), holiday and evening hours customary to the retail trade.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist customers and donors in a timely and courteous manner, ensuring excellent customer service.
  • Maximize used goods processing through proper application of Goodwill techniques, including sorting, preparing and pricing items for sale; meet or exceed production goals consistently.
  • Ensure that the store and surrounding premises are kept neat, clean and orderly and free of safety hazards; understand and follow health, safety and emergency procedures.
  • Help unload trucks as required; sort and grade newly arrived goods.
  • Assist Store Manager in training new employees timely and according to agency and store policies and procedures.
  • Maintain production areas to ensure ease of operations.
  • Comply with cash handling and security policies; close out register for daily total, confirm correct amount and notify supervisor of any discrepancy; make nightly deposit to designated bank.
  • Responsible for the store's operation in the absence of the Store Manager and Assistant Manager, including opening and closing the store, directing personnel, ensuring adherence to policies, handling sales transactions, processing donated goods, ordering supplies and checking security of building.
  • Maintain store records as required.
  • Immediately report any suspicions or allegations of fraud to supervisor.
  • Comply with all CARF, Agency, and store policies and procedures.
Other Duties

Employee will perform bank transactions necessary to store operations, e.g., depositing daily receipts, securing rolled coins or specific denominations of bills; must have access to transportation for travel to/from designated bank. Employee will be included on Alarm Responder Roster and respond to alarm calls as directed.

Requirements

Education and Experience

High school diploma or GED plus a minimum of one year related experience and/or training. Must be 18 years of age or older.

Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; ability to speak effectively with customers, clients and other employees.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide; perform calculations using units of American money.

Reasoning Ability

Apply common sense understanding to carry out simple instructions; handle standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.

Skills and Abilities

Delegate tasks effectively to store personnel; exhibit high level of integrity and business ethics.

Physical Demands

Must stand, walk, talk, and hear regularly; use hands to handle or reach; lift and move up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds occasionally; push crates weighing up to 600 pounds; assist customers with heavy items; follow proper lifting techniques.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Wear protective eyewear, gloves, and protective gear as required while handling chemicals and operating equipment.

Work Environment

Fast-paced retail setting with regular deadlines and production quotas; occasional exposure to wet conditions, fumes, chemicals, and high places; noise level moderate.
