Academic Tutor - Writing Center

The College is seeking a pool of applicants for hourly Academic Tutor positions for the English Department Writing Center. Assignments could be at the Lincroft main campus and/or the College’s Higher Education Centers.

• Tutor individuals/small groups of students in fundamental and advanced areas of writing, including essays and research papers.
• Support classroom instruction, administer/evaluate placement essays, order materials, maintain records, and supervise the use of materials and facilities.
• Analyze individual student writing needs, develop learning objectives to meet those needs, and monitor student progress.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in English or a closely related field is required.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• Knowledge of word processing.
• In-depth knowledge of the process approach to writing instruction, as well as excellent grammar and interpersonal/communication skills.
• Ability to work with students with special needs and students for whom English is a second language.
