About the Critical Care UnitThe Critical Care Unit is a 25-bed inpatient nursing unit specializing in the care of adult medical/surgical patients and cardiovascular/cardiothoracic surgical patients. The unit is equipped to provide post-operative care and recovery for cardiovascular and cardiothoracic surgical patients, including those undergoing open heart surgery, thoracotomy, endarterectomy, percutaneous cardiac intervention, and treatment for acute myocardial infarction. Patients may require intensive monitoring of lab values, hemodynamic pressure monitoring, mechanical ventilation, administration and titration of vasoactive and/or neuromuscular blocking agents, or recovery from anesthesia.
Advanced technologies such as Ultra Filtration (UF), Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP), Continuous Renal Reperfusion Therapy (CRRT), Impella Device, and Targeted Temperature Management (TTM) are also utilized.
The Clinical Nurse is a registered nurse (RN) who partners with and advocates for patients and their families to provide physical, emotional, and spiritual support, impacting patient outcomes in a safe environment. The RN demonstrates professionalism, promotes excellence and autonomy in nursing practice, and utilizes the nursing process along with evidence-based principles to care for a diverse patient caseload within the department's scope of service.
The RN serves as a guide, healer, collaborator, teacher, leader, and sentinel, working collaboratively with the inter-professional team. The RN is accountable for compliance with the Ohio Nurse Practice Act, Nursing Code of Ethics, and applicable regulatory standards.
- Minimum Education: Associate degree from an accredited nursing school
- Preferred Education: BSN; BSN completion or professional certification may be required
- Valid Ohio RN license
- Current CPR certification required at the time of hire
- No prior job-related experience required
- Ability to multitask with constant interruptions while maintaining a pleasant demeanor
- Basic computer knowledge
- Strong organizational skills
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills
