Position Overview

Provide system safety engineering and technical project management support to the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) Program Office for undersea weapons, associated accessories, and support equipment. This role requires specialized expertise in system safety principles, explosives safety reviews, and program integration, as well as the ability to manage schedules, resources, and reporting in support of NAVSEA’s System Safety Program. The candidate will work closely with Government personnel, providing recommendations, technical analyses, and programmatic support to ensure safe, effective, and timely execution of torpedo enterprise programs.

Support Responsibilities System Safety Support
  • Support the incorporation of system safety engineering principles into undersea weapons, accessories, and support equipment.
  • Review and provide recommendations on system safety analyses and risk assessments performed for undersea weapons systems.
  • Provide inputs for hazard identification, mitigation strategies, and system integration safety evaluations.
  • Support NAVSEA in preparing and presenting safety materials to the Weapon System Explosives Safety Review Board (WSESRB), including development of Technical Data Packages.
  • Provide meeting support by chairing or participating in System Safety Working Group (SSWG) meetings, documenting outcomes, and tracking action items.
  • Assist in mentoring new government system safety engineers by providing subject matter expertise and guidance on policies, methodologies, and best practices.
Programmatic & Technical Management Support
  • Provide programmatic support for multiple simultaneous development, production, and in-service torpedo programs.
  • Assist in coordinating and maintaining the Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) for System Safety activities.
  • Prepare draft project schedules, task statements, earned value reports, and technical performance summaries.
  • Provide inputs to annual budget requirements for labor and materials to support NAVSEA’s System Safety Program.
  • Support the acquisition and development of analytical tools and methodologies used to execute system safety efforts.
  • Draft and update System Safety Plans, charters, and enterprise methodologies for NAVSEA/NUWCDIVNPT review and approval.
Stakeholder Communication Support
  • Prepare briefings, reports, and correspondence for NAVSEA leadership, Technical Warrant Holders, Ship Design/Integration Managers, Warfare Centers, and range safety personnel.
  • Coordinate with fleet representatives, industry partners, academia, and Foreign Military Sales (FMS) customers on system safety matters.
  • Support NAVSEA/NUWCDIVNPT executives in communicating program safety concerns to stakeholders.
Qualifications
  • Demonstrated expertise in system safety engineering for complex defense systems, preferably undersea weapons.
  • Experience with explosives safety reviews, risk assessments, and hazard analysis methodologies.
