Mechanical Systems Technician
SAIC is currently seeking a Mechanical Systems Technician in Middletown, RI. The candidate will support the MK48 Shapes program and maintain, repair, and upgrade heavyweight torpedo shapes for U.S. Navy and FMS customers. Shape categories include Launch Vehicles, Training Shapes, Fitment Shapes, Dummy Launch Vehicles, Pre‑Settable Launch Vehicles (PLV), Display Shapes, and Reconfigurable Test Shapes (RTS). Shape maintenance occurs on a weekly basis.
The candidate will support maintenance on torpedo shapes at government or contractor sites, inspecting shapes to verify that no corrosion or material deficiencies exist that would prevent proper function as identified in Applicable Documents. When a deficiency is identified, the candidate will generate a Technical Deficiency Report under the oversight of the Shapes Project Manager. The candidate will also prepare shapes for shipment and record location changes in the Shapes Tracking System Database.
Job Duties- Checkout and visual inspection of MK48 Shapes.
- Use facility cranes for moving and positioning shapes.
- Perform maintenance tasks in the Shapes facilities.
- Assemble and install equipment related to shape maintenance.
- Create, build, modify, and repair Shapes under the supervision of the Shapes Project Manager following approved procedures.
- Maintain facility and system upkeep and organization.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- 3+ years of experience in a related mechanical technician role (e.g., auto mechanics).
- Ability to obtain SECRET level clearance.
- Proficiency with computers and basic use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Experience with basic mechanical tools and working in a team environment under supervision.
- Ability to work with other team members in an organized and professional manner.
