Job Summary
Michigan Medicine Faculty Position as Chief of Cardiac Surgery – My Michigan Health (Midland & Saginaw).
We are seeking a visionary and compassionate Cardiac Surgeon for a faculty appointment with Michigan Medicine to lead transformative change as the inaugural Chief of the My Michigan Health Cardiac Surgery Program under a new collaborative care model between My Michigan Health and University of Michigan Health.
The OpportunityThis leadership role is a full‑time faculty position with the University of Michigan Medical School, based at My Michigan Health's Midland and Saginaw campuses. You will oversee a well‑established clinical practice with significant planned expansion.
The program currently performs over 600 open‑heart and structural heart procedures annually across both sites, including 320+ open cases and 200+ TAVR procedures, with goals to continue to grow our transcatheter mitral and tricuspid program. A faculty appointment at the University of Michigan Medical School, with a comprehensive benefits package, will be offered. The academic rank will be Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor based on your experience and qualifications.
KeyLeadership Responsibilities
- Strategic vision and program development aligned with both institutions.
- Collaborative team leadership with cardiologists, hospital leadership, and support staff.
- Recruitment, hiring, and mentorship of new faculty surgeons and team members.
- High‑volume practice serving the Mid‑Michigan community for 17+ years.
- Support from experienced cardiac‑trained anesthesiologists, CRNAs, and a dedicated structural heart team.
- Equitable shared call schedule with faculty colleagues;
Advanced Practice Providers on first call. - Comprehensive cardiovascular services with two operating rooms including a hybrid OR.
- Teaching and mentorship opportunities for University of Michigan medical students and residents.
- U‑M Health Frankel Cardiovascular Center ranked #1 in Michigan.
- My Michigan Medical Center Midland recognized as a High Performing Hospital for Aortic Valve Surgery, Heart Failure, and TAVR.

- Michigan Medicine’s Department of Cardiac Surgery leads in pioneering treatments.
- MD or DO degree.
- Board certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery (ABTS) or equivalent.
- Completion of an ACGME‑accredited cardiothoracic surgery residency.
- Proficiency in all aspects of adult cardiac surgery with excellent technical skills.
- Full, unrestricted medical license in the State of Michigan.
- Minimum of 5 years experience.
- Proven track record of high‑quality outcomes and program development leadership.
