TITLE:
SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER (EI), ELEMENTARY
START DATE JANUARY 5, 2026
SALARY RANGE: $47,547-$102,907 (salary protection available)
REQUIRED:
Applicants must hold a valid Michigan teaching certificate with an endorsement in the following area:
Emotional Impairment (SE).
JOB SUMMARY:
Instruct students in activities designed to promote social, physical, and intellectual growth in the subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible citizens.
REPORTS TO:
Building Administration and/or Superintendent
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
As per the current Midland City Education Association (MCEA) Agreement

QUALIFICATIONS:
* Education:
* Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent
* Must possess valid teaching certification with appropriate endorsement for subject area.
* Properly Placed (previously HQ) with required endorsements as determined by district assignment
* Additional education/training in specific area may be required depending on assignment
* Ability to withstand the physical and mental rigors of teaching
* Demonstrated Technical Skills
* Computer knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office and Google Suite, and other basic computer skills
* Familiarity with student information systems
* Possess computer competency and familiarity with emerging technologies
* Possess well-developed problem-solving skills
* Possess sound, independent judgment, including handling of confidential matters
* Possess working knowledge of best practice strategies; able to make research-based decisions
* Ability to collect and analyze data to assess student achievement
* Ability to provide differentiated instruction for students
* Ability to communicate effectively with parents, staff members, and students, verbally and in writing
* Ability to provide and maintain an orderly classroom environment
* Pass background check
QUALIFICATIONS SPECIFIC TO SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHING POSITIONS:
* Working knowledge of IEP and Special Education documentations
* Ability to manage special education caseload, including conducting IEPT meetings
* Ability to complete IEP forms and monitor compliance in accordance with IDEA and MARSE rules
* Ability to collect and analyze data to assess student achievement
* Ability to provide differentiated instruction for students and make accommodations based on individual student data
* Ability to identify and incorporate strategic and intensive interventions as dictated by individual student data
* Ability to work with special needs students in an inclusive setting
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
* Successfully complete district assigned trainings, per established deadlines - job specific training will be provided as available
* Organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines
* Maintain an organized environment
* Work independently as well as with a team
* Maintain a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality with regard to all district related matters and records
* Teach district approved curriculum
* Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students
* Administer and develop subject specific assessments for the purpose of assessing student competency levels and/or developing individual learning plans
* Advise parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of communicating expectations, student's achievements, developing methods for improvement, and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment
* Is available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day, as needed
* Assess student progress towards objectives, expectations, and/or goals for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents, and administration
* Collaborate with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents, and a variety of community resources for the purpose of improving the overall quality of student outcomes, achieving established classroom objectives in support of the school improvement plan
* Demonstrate and differentiate methods required to perform classroom and/or subject specific assignments for the purpose of providing an effective program that addresses individual student requirements and results in student growth
* Instruct students for the purpose of improving their success in academics through a defined course of study
* Manage student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment
* Monitor students in a variety of educational environments (e.g. classroom, school grounds, hallways, restrooms, field trips, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment
* Participate in a variety of meetings and professional development activities for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required resulting in optimum performance
