Cabot has an exciting opportunity for a Safety, Health, Environmental (SH&E) Manager who will lead and direct a plant in the Safety, Health, and Environmental (SH&E) areas. They will assure monitoring and preventing chemical, physical hazards throughout the plant and the community. This person is responsible for leading and facilitating the development and implementation of cost‑effective programs and procedures that continuously increase overall awareness in SH&E to eliminate undesired incidents at the site.

They will also partner with local management team to assure local compliance with all applicable plant, company, and governmental policies, procedures, regulations, legislation, and maintaining alignment with Cabot's Culture and Values. Lastly, they will collaborate with the Region, Corporate and regulatory agencies to ensure SH&E concerns are identified and managed.

The candidate must have strong self‑motivation, and a desire to work in an environment of continuous improvement. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a collaborative mindset are key for this role, which will interact with all organizational levels and functions.

We are seeking a fully qualified and experienced Safety, Health, and Environmental manager who can drive SH&E results and quality standards for the site. The SH&E Manager will work on‑site at the Midland, MI plant.

How You Will Make an Impact

In this role, you are the responsible person for leading and facilitating the development and implementation of training and other programs and activities necessary to ensure facility SH&E compliance. This role requires a SH&E mindset, self‑motivated person with a positive attitude, a ton of good energy, effective time management, organization, and record‑keeping skills. A successful candidate will be someone who can:

  • Monitor proposed and existing SH&E regulations and legislation to determine their impact on operations. Develop and implement programs to ensure continued compliance.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of Long‑Range Plans (LRPs), Continuous Improvement Plans (CIPs), global standards, budget, and other corporate efforts.
  • Establish site SH&E goals and objectives consistent with global and regional goals.
  • Manage a system for identifying, investigating, recording, and reporting undesired SH&E events. Ensure corrective actions are taken to fulfill regulatory compliance.
  • Provide regular communication to all levels of management regarding SH&E performance to ensure that relevant issues are quickly and appropriately addressed.
  • Manage all plant permitting efforts to meet regulatory requirements including but not limited to chemical, physical hazards as well as air, land, waste, and water pollution levels.
  • Collect and compile environmental data for air, drinking water, stormwater, wastewater, and waste streams applicable to the site and make the required regulatory report and fee submittals (i.e., air, npdes, epcra, waste, etc.) as required by local, state, and federal governmental agencies.
  • Communicate with the appropriate governmental agencies.
  • Oversee requirements of non‑hazardous, universal wastes, and hazardous waste activities including proper storage, labeling, manifesting, and container inspections.
  • Manage databases and document record‑keeping required for assuring compliance with SH&E regulations and standards.
  • Participate in the preparation and administration of site SH&E training. Promote and train employees in the use of safety equipment and in the safe use of machinery. May train forklift operators to qualify for licensing.
