This position assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates care for general medical/surgical patients. Employees in this casual position are required to pick up shifts as outlined in the Midland Nursing Casual Employee Policy.
Responsibilities- (30%) Regularly assess patients/clients' needs and provide skilled nursing services as prescribed by the physician authorized plan of care, and accepted standards of nursing practice.
- (30%) Provide direct patient care, including medication administration, treatments, call lights, assisting with transfers, responding to alarms, etc.
- (20%) Evaluate effectiveness of treatment plan and make suggestions or participate in updating/revising the treatment plan in collaboration with other team members, utilizing current information to improve patient care.
- (10%) Process physician/provider orders and perform physician ordered care accurately, completely and in a timely manner.
- (10%) Follow up regarding medication changes and order clarifications.
- Demonstrate the ability to interpret information and report pertinent clinical data to the physician.
- Assess learning needs considering readiness, ability, preferences, and cultural/spiritual variables.
- Provide education to meet individual learning needs and abilities.
- Participate in care conferences as assigned.
- Develop and maintain good working rapport with interdisciplinary personnel to meet patient needs.
- Coordinate care provided by patient care technicians.
- Organize and prioritize the needs of groups of patients or individual patients.
- Manage assignments and perform routine duties on the unit.
- Instruct other team members when appropriate, explaining goals and rationale for individualized care.
- Implement clinical and technical aspects of care in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Utilize clinical pathways appropriately.
- Remain calm and efficient when working in stressful situations.
- Document accurately, clearly, and concisely, including pertinent clinical data.
- Share information and report significant changes and/or abnormal findings to appropriate team members.
- Participate in regulatory surveys.
- Participate in performance improvement activities.
- Assist with orientation and ongoing competencies.
- Provide a safe and secure environment for patient care.
- Attend and participate in professional association activities and programs to stay current on regulations, guidelines, and professional standards.
- Remain current on new developments by reading professional journals and attending seminars.
- Demonstrate understanding of role in emergency preparedness procedures.
- Interact positively with patients and families during severe stress situations.
- Monitor and initiate safety measures to prevent patient injury.

- BLS:
Basic Life Support – Equivalent experience within 3 months of hire or transfer. Qualification Source: AHA. Essential: true. - DIMC:
Dysrhythmia Interpretation Man – Employees hired after January 1 2025 must complete a Telemetry Monitoring and Management class within 12 months of hire or transfer. Essential: true. - RN:

Techniques for Effective Aggression Management – Equivalent experience within 6 months of hire or transfer. Essential: true.
- Education:
Associate Degree. Equivalent experience:
Bachelor's degree in nursing preferred.

- Interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups.
- Technology competency in Microsoft Windows.
- Other training opportunities may be required.
- Exposure to stressful situations, trauma, grief, and death.
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment including latex materials.
- Mobility throughout the facility; ability to perform job functions. Vision and hearing necessary.
- Frequently required to sit, stand, or walk for long periods, with postural changes required.
- Exposure to blood borne pathogens; must follow blood borne pathogen and TB testing.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks, work independently, and maintain regular attendance.
- Overall dexterity required; may involve repetitive motions.
- Physical Demand Level: Medium. May occasionally lift or carry 21–50 lbs.
