Job TitleJourneyman Carpenter - Casework (Fabricator/Installer)
Job SummaryWorking from blueprints or instructions from supervisors, cut, shape, and assemble wooden articles and/or set up and operate a variety of woodworking machines, such as power saws, jointers, and mortisers to surface, cut, or shape lumber or to fabricate parts for wood products. Work with various surface materials such as laminate, Corian, etc. Works on commercial projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Cabinets/Countertops/Molding
- Know materials, parts and tools required for install
- Read cabinet drawings and elevations for layout of plumbing and electric, and counter tops.
- Install cabinets plumb and level
- Install counter tops
- Rework cabinets in the field
- Build specialty counters
- Sketch/figure material, layout
- Casework
- Produce or assemble components of articles, such as store fixtures, office equipment, cabinets, or high‑grade furniture.
- Verify dimensions or check the quality or fit of pieces to ensure adherence to specifications.
- Set up or operate machines, including edge banders, power saws, and jointers.
- Measure and mark dimensions of parts on paper or lumber stock prior to cutting, following blueprints, to ensure a tight fit and quality product.
- Reinforce joints with nails or other fasteners to prepare articles for finishing.
- Attach parts or subassemblies together to form completed units, using glue, dowels, nails, screws, or clamps.
- Establish the specifications of articles to be constructed or repaired or plan the methods or operations for shaping or assembling parts, based on blueprints, drawings, diagrams, or oral or written instructions.
- Cut material to the right size and shape and trim parts of joints to ensure a snug fit, using hand tools, such as planes, chisels, or wood files.
- Match materials for color, grain, or texture, giving attention to knots or other features of the wood.
- Trim, sand, or scrape surfaces or joints to prepare articles for finishing.
- Caulking
- Prep work area, clean tools, install forms for column bases
- Apply caulk using proper tools and techniques
- Equipment Operator
- Knows correct equipment for task at hand
- Has certifications for machinery use (fork lift, etc.)
- Trim and Millwork
- Install trim work
- Has proper tools for trim installation
- Install door and window jambs
- Properly hand and adjust doors
- Mill, fabricate and install all types of trim
- Make proper cuts to correctly install trim which includes back cuts, miter cuts, compound and relief cuts; door and windows jambs
- Perform, direct, and train for proper installation
- Blueprints
- Understand meanings of different lines, dimensions, scales and symbols
- Understand plan views, sectional views, elevation views and associated details
- Understand and decipher information for other trades and their relationship to the architectural trades
- Change Locks
- Install door hardware
- Use hinge and boring jibs, and hand plainer
- Hang and hinge wood door and jambs
- Understands prints
- Cut and shape wood
- Use hand and power tools
- Conform to local building codes
- Assist in training apprentice carpenters
- Consistent regular on‑site attendance is a requirement of the job

- Safety Compliance
- At least 18 years of age
- Completion of Pre‑Employment Background Check, Drug Screen and Physical, Strength Assessment, and Safety Training for Construction Trade
- High School Degree or Equivalent
- 4 years of construction trade education on‑the‑job, vocational school, technical college, or formal apprenticeship program preferred
- 4 years of carpentry performed on‑the‑job preferred
- Blueprint reading required
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret blueprints using English language
- Ability to respond effectively to inquiries or complaints
- Ability to work as a team or individually to complete projects
- Prolonged standing, climbing, bending, and kneeling
- Crouch, crawl, stoop rarely
